What type of environment do you have?

*Required

The environment where you are working helps set the stage for what kind of chair or stool you need. Standard environment includes areas such as research labs, offices, or industrial settings. A Controlled environment is an area such as a clean room with strict guidelines as to what can and cannot be in the area. A Specialty environment would include areas where you are looking for seating that has one specific purpose, such as a sit-stand or gyroscope stool.

What type of controlled environment do you have?

*Required

Controlled environments have strict guidelines regarding what can and cannot be in the area. ESD, or Electro-Static Dissipating, chairs would be found in areas where static discharge risks the viability of the apparatus one is performing work on. Clean Rooms have certain set classifications they must meet regarding the number of particulates in the air at a given time. We offer clean room products in a Class 10 (ISO 4) or Class 100 (ISO 5). If you are looking for Class 1000 (ISO 6) or Class 10,000 (ISO 7), these can be found in our standard items.

Do you need a task chair or a guest chair?

Pick your material.

*Required

The environment where you work will help determine what material to choose on the seat and back of your chair. If it is likely that there will be chemical spills or residue, the optional self-skinning polyurethane material should be considered because it is easy to clean – simply wipe down with a moist Cloth for effortless cleanup.
For longer periods of sitting, a flexible molded polyurethane seat is a good choice because of its durability compared to regular cut polyurethane foam material. The molded polyurethane foam can be upholstered with either a durable vinyl material or, in environments where it is suitable, a quality Cloth material.

How tall is your work surface?

*Required

Your work surface height level (desk, bench, hood, etc.) determines the seat height range you choose for your chair. This table gives you the proper seat height range in relation to your work surface:

Work Surface Height Range Chair Seat Height Range
29" - 31" 16" - 21"
32" - 36" 18" - 24"
37" - 42" 22" - 32"

Which type seating do you prefer?

*Required

To assure that proper posture is maintained, the backrest of your chair or stool must be adjustable both horizontally and vertically to properly support the lumbar area of your back. This is particularly important for long-term sitting to prevent “slouching,” which often leads to back spasms and undue pressure on the front of the intervertebral discs in the spinal column.

Which base would you prefer?

*Required

This option really is about personal preference. Our cast aluminum (chrome) bases are easily cleaned and heavy duty. Our black base is made of nylon reinforced fiberglass and are just as durable as the chrome. The Round Tube base is a black powder-coated steel base with a fixed foot ring. There will not be a foot ring option for the round tube base and adding casters adds two inches of height to the chair.

Choose a mechanism.

*Required

If your work involves having to lean forward (for example, to look into a microscope), a forward seat tilt option should be considered. This will allow you to maintain an open angle in your hip and enable you to relieve the added pressure normally exerted on the lumbar area of your back when leaning forward.

Do you prefer Arm Rests?

*Required

We offer six-way adjustable arm rests on the majority of our products. The arms adjust up and down, in and out, and the arm pads swivel. Two-way (up and down) adjustable arms are available on basic industrial polyurethane chairs. Arms offer the user extra support and ours give the user a wide range of placement options to allow the user extra comfort during use. Arms MUST be factory installed.

Would you like a footring?

*Required

Footrings allow the user a place to rest one’s feet while working at surfaces that are higher than a standard desk. Footrings are recommended for chairs and stools that are medium bench height and are required for chairs and stools that are high bench height. Our Black footring is nylon reinforced fiberglass and are very durable. While the diameter is only 18 ¾”, the surface to rest one’s feet is the widest and flattest that we offer. Our chrome is the most popular. Both options are adjustable allowing for the user to move it to a height that is most comfortable for him/her.

Which mobility option would you prefer?

*Required

Depending on the floor surface and task to be performed while seated, your chair needs to have the proper safety and mobility options available. If you need mobility on a hard surface floor, such as concrete, tile or vinyl, a soft rubber caster wheel is the best choice. For carpeted floors, a hard nylon caster is preferred. If safety is the primary issue, nylon glides are normally the best option.
